Supporting Knowledge Based Sectors in Gozo Scheme 2026
Scheme provides for a partial salary reimbursement of up to €8,000 per annum for a period of 3 years (for a total grant of up to a maximum of €24,000) and for a partial reimbursement of training costs of up to €1,500 per annum for a period of 3 years for each employee working within specific knowledge-intensive economic sectors based in Gozo.
Supporting Sustainable Quality Employment in Gozo Scheme
Scheme offers partial salary reimbursements to Gozo-based employers, spread over 3 years, for employees on full-time, indefinite employment. Eligible staff include newly hired staff or those continuously employed after 1st January 2018, whose employer benefited from a full 3-year cycle under prior schemes (Gozo Employment Refund Scheme, Gozo Back-Office Employment Refund Scheme, Supporting Sustainable Quality Employment Scheme, or Supporting Knowledge Based Sectors in Gozo Scheme).
Promoting Gozo’s Niche Tourism Markets Scheme 2026
Supports specific niche businesses in marketing campaigns to promote Gozo as a sustainable quality destination. Scheme covers up to 75% of eligible expense, capped at €3,000 for advertisement campaigns targeting a foreign and local audience or participation in international fairs/events aboard. Capping increases to €4,500 in case of businesses undertaking both advertisement campaigns and participating in international fairs/events aboard.

Population
As at December 2021 Malta had 519,000 inhabitants, out of which 39,000 were inhabitants in Gozo. These figures were published following a population census carried out between October and November 2021.

EU Member State
On 1 May 2004 Malta became an EU member state following its accession to the European Union.

Official Language
Malta has two official languages being Maltese and English. Most of the population is bilingual however, it is a common occurrence to find persons who can speak other languages as well. English is the pre-dominant language used in business.

Climate
The Maltese Islands boost over 300 days a year of sunshine. Malta’s typical Mediterranean climate offers hot and dry weather in summer and a mild and wet weather during the winter season.

Currency

Share of Expats in Gozo
The 2021 population census revealed that the share of expats living in Gozo amounted to 19.5% of the total population in Gozo. As at the end of 2020 the share of foreigners working in Gozo amounted to around 21% of the total number of persons employed in Gozo.

Diversified economy
In 2020, Gozo recorded a gross domestic product (GDP) of EUR 559.9 million, which represents a contribution of 4.3% to the overall GDP of the Maltese Islands. The Island of Gozo offers a diversified economy which enables a varied portfolio of investment opportunities.
